Missouri Tax Credit News
The Missouri Legislature - this year's gridlock issue - November 12, 2012
For the past several years there has been a lot of banter about reining in the Missouri tax credit programs, especially the Missouri historic and Missouri iow income programs. However, nothing happens because the legislature gets gridlocked.
For those who want to preserve the tax credit programs in their current form, we have a new friend - health care. Missouri voters overwhelmingly supported a ballot issue that prevents the Governor from devising a state health care exchange plan. This means that Missouri residents will be subject to the federal health care exchange program. Many prominent Missouri politicians on both sides of the aisle have expressed a strong desire not to let the federal goverment establish a plan for them. The debate around this issue, in our opinion, will provide the issue that prevents the Missouri legislature from getting a tax credit reform bill passed this year. It also doesn't hurt that the Governor Nixon and the Republican dominated State Senate are all back this session.
